Hunting Strategies: Fixed Stands 101

Most of us can remember the old rickety wood stand built in the crotch of a tree with leftover nails and lumber that they've hunted out of as a kid or have periodically seen while out in the woods slowly rotting away. These stands were likely installed in a spot meant to be hunted regularly.⠀ ⠀

The Fixed Stand is the most preferred method of ambush style hunting. In fact, more whitetails are tagged each year from a fixed treestand than by any other means.

Fixed Stands can be hangon platform stands, raised boxes, tripods, and ladder stands that can provide hunters a valuable advantage. An elevated position offers many benefits over other hunting styles like ground blinds. For one,(the obvious) they are elevated giving you a greater field of view and hearing. They also provide the best accessibility.

Hunters simply need to find the stand, and climb up. No more fussing with climbing sticks and tension cables in the dark.⠀ ⠀ Because mobility and weight isn't a top priority, fixed stands boast a plethora of accessories targeted for comfort and performance like large plush seats, lumbar support, foot rests, and even drink holders.⠀ ⠀

These types of stands make great additions to anyone's hunting arsenals especially those looking to introduce youths into hunting. On private land these stands are more widely used, but on public land some states have regulations on hunting from fixed stands, so be sure to educate yourself on the current regulations.⠀ ⠀
